First, there is no blanket strategy for all Pinterest accounts. Every business and blog is unique. Every entrepreneur and blogger attracts a different tribe.

So the key is to conduct AB testing. Watch the below video to learn more about how to test out different colors, titles, and images on your pins.

3 Common Components of Viral Pins:

Now I'm no graphic designer. So I learned how to create viral pins through a LOT of trial and error. But in many ways, it has worked to my advantage when it comes to finding those super simple design strategies.

Though there isn't a one-size fits all strategy, there are numerous commonalities among the most recent viral pins. Below are top 3 common components of pins that get the most clicks and re-pins/shares:

1. Typography Matters

Sentence case. Lower case. Just not all caps! Very subtle but very helpful to incorporate into your text overlay.

The devil is in the details. Here's what I mean...

My pins that are in all caps tend to not do as well than those in sentence case. This goes for pins containing quotes too.

At body text sizes, capital letters—or simply all caps —are harder to read than normal lowercase text. We read more lowercase text, so by habit, lowercase (or sentence case) is more familiar and thus more legible.

Plus, people tend to associate all caps with shouting. No one wants to be shouted at. Just like how no one likes to read "salesy" content.

2. Clear Font

None of that curly swirly fancy pants stuff. When it comes to Pinterest, users are scrolling on their phones, tablets or desktop.

So that gives pins very little screen time. That's why every second matters. The easier the text overlay on the pin, the higher likelihood it'll be read, re-pinned and clicked on.

Need some ideas? Clear fonts that have worked well for pinners include Sans Serif, Arial Open Sans, Helvetica, Verdana and Roboto.

3. Hero image

Keep it simple when it comes to your pin's main image. Sometimes if a pin is too busy with different images, it can decrease the likelihood of re-pins.

I almost always use only one image per pin. It's all about keeping things simple and it saves a lot of time too!  Sure, sometimes more than one image is better. If you are trying to show a before and after, two may be better for your content.

Bottom line: Keep the hero image(s) simple. If you need to include more than one image, be sure to the number of images conveys your message clearly without being too busy.
