Best 5 Ways to Counterbalance Negative Energy


Dealing with coworkers who seem to vent all day? Working for a bitter boss? Whenever we find ourselves wrapped up in unwanted stress, anxiety and negativity, it’s suggested we increase the amount of time, thought, and energy we direct toward positive behavior.

Why is developing mindfulness around your daily thoughts so important? Your thoughts create your emotional, physical, and energetic reality.


How about when it feels like a string of negative events keep happening? When a series of awful events occur left and right, it can feel like there’s a lot negative energy around. But how do you know if it really is negative energy?


Now I’m not a naturally positive person. I have to train and retrain my brain to shift negative perceptions all the time. Like...throughout the day.


No one is immune to negative situations in life. It’s life throwing them lemons for us to make lemonade. Sometimes it’s just easier to see the lemons as bad luck.


Before every breakthrough, there is usually a breakdown.


A breakdown could be an end of a relationship, job loss, and other events that do not align with the new and higher frequency of where you are headed.


1. Reflect back on a time in your life you realized that you “dodged a bullet.”


Perhaps it was a relationship that didn’t work out? Then you later realized how that freed you up to meet a better partner. Or a rejection from a job offer? But it freed you up to come across a better opportunity a month later.


During those dark periods, it probably felt like a lot of negative energy around. It probably felt like all that heavy energy was never going to lift.


But that’s the point. Sometimes it’s ok feel out of alignment.


When you focus on when and how the chaos is going to end, your feelings resonate energetic vibrations of anger, resentment and anxiety. Manifesting a breakthrough can slow down because your energy starts to operate in a lower vibrational frequency.


2. Feel it to heal it.


Going through a dark night of the soul feels downright awful. In fact, it’s not easy to see any silver linings in the midst of all the chaos.


The key is to feel it in order to heal it. As you release your negative emotions, begin to shift your energy.


So there’s not need to force it. Stop the analyzing. After some time passes, you may see why things panned out the way they did.


For now, there’s no need to push yourself while in the midst of a dark night of the soul. Allow yourself to feel the feelings. Cry, scream, do what you gotta do to release the emotions.


Then, when you’re ready, you can turn those negative vibes into positive fuel at anytime.


3. Find stillness and listen.


Throughout my 20s I struggled with anxiety and bouts of depression. This was in my personal and professional life.


I was always looking for Mr Right in the wrong places. And it wasn’t just romantic relationship issues, I also struggled with keeping close friends around.


I was also miserable at my 9-5 job. I worked really hard wherever I was, public sector or private sector. Got promoted and then ended up even more unhappy taking on more responsibilities doing work that I wasn’t passionate about.


There was a whole lot of crying on Friday nights just dreading going into work on Mondays.



In 2013, I hit rock bottom yet again. By then I was in my early 30s and that made it harder because I expected my 30s to be better than my 20s by far. So my expectations kind of made me feel worse about everything.


After learning all the lessons I learned in my 20s, I figured I was older and wiser and therefore there was no way I would hit rock bottom.


But I actually sank even deeper.


It was like I fell in a black hole. I ended a long-term relationship with a guy that I was set on marrying. Long distance just didn’t work out.


And within seven months of the relationship ending, he met and married someone. So that hurt pretty bad even though I was the one who ended things.


My professional life was rough too. I was working overseas and traveling a lot. There was a lot of office politics going on. It was an environment with lots of passive aggressiveness and again the work itself didn’t resonate with me at all.


I hated going into work everyday. I would call in sick and had all types of excuses. I think at one point I said I had hives, then one time I had pink eye, I mean the list goes on.


Throughout this time, I journaled, meditated, visualized my ideal future, and look a lot of time to dig deep. I got quiet and tapped into my intuition.


After much introspection, I recognized that my sanity was priceless. Slowly but surely, I got clear on what I wanted to change in my work and life.


4. Take small but consistent steps to shift.


When you shift your focus, you shift your energy. And where our focus goes, energy flows.

Within months of gaining clarity, I moved to a new city. I even bought a condo and car within 24-hours of landing. When in alignment, things fall into place quite quickly.


Recognize your dominant thoughts and feelings throughout the day. Keep this awareness in mind in order to cultivate positive thoughts and raise your vibrational frequency.


Your thoughts create your reality. So when you have positive thoughts or are simply expressing gratitude throughout the day, your thoughts influence how you feel, your health, and energy level.


5. Invest in yourself to raise your vibrations.


There are a gazillion ways to invest in yourself without spending a penny. So there’s no excuse!


When you invest in your personal development, you raise your vibrational frequency. When you raise your vibes, you are better able to counterbalance negative energy and attract positive energy.


One of the best ways to invest in yourself is through self-compassion. It’s easy to forget to have compassion for ourselves.


Practicing self-compassion is something a lot of people seem to struggle with. Especially when it comes to finding that balance of nurturing others and taking time to personally recharge.


Consider one way you can practice self-compassion. Maybe it’s taking a break from social media. Or allowing yourself to feel all your emotions rather than tucking it away.


During my darkest days, I decided to get my finances in order. It was empowering and liberating to be able to take back control of my life one step at a time.
