Covid Dating Chronicles (CDC): The Odds are Good but the Goods are Odd

What's it like to be a single woman in her mid to late 30's navigating the dating scene? Well, when it comes to online dating, I can sum it up in a few words: The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

I've only been on apps that are geared towards relationship seekers. Not hookups.

Shirtless Selfies

So I have to ask the guys, what is with the shirtless bathroom selfies?! Trying to overcompensate or something? Get rid of those photos when it's not a hookup type of dating app!

When there are more than two selfies in a guy's profile, I wonder if he has a life outside of his home or work. These days it's so easy with a phone camera to capture candid moments. It's also easy to crop out friends and family if they are in the shot.

So I do wonder when most of a profile is mainly selfies: Does he have a social life? Does he ever go out with friends or take family photos?

And guys, if you're going to do a selfie in the car, we don't need to see up your nose.

Bottom line: Too many selfies = red flag

Also, when you initiate a conversation, what's with the one word openers: Hey, Hi, Hello. The profile is filled out for a reason. I give a lot of info about myself for you to work off of! At least start with a sentence ending with "?"

I've heard that online dating can be a numbers game. Though I'd argue that it doesn't have to be. Sometimes all it takes is a little extra thought. Rather than spamming a much of women with one word introductions, why not read their profile to see if there is even common ground? It really doesn't have to be a numbers game!

As a 37 year old, I prefer men that are a few years older. But I'm not limiting myself. Yet I'm realizing that men in their 30s and 40s are very much like the guys back in high school....

What's with the ghosting?! Can we have adult conversations rather than suddenly stop responding?

Covid Dating Chronicles (CDC): Confessions of a Mid-30's Gal Ghosting has been increasingly common in the digital age. It seems to be more widespread than Coronavirus.

While I understand it's an easy way out of a difficult conversation, there are ways to communicate with kindness if you're no longer interested. It's just better than leaving someone high and dry after both sides have invested time and energy into getting to know each other.

Last but not least, we aren't living in the dark ages. To all the guys who fill out their dating profile that they are seeking a gal that always smiles...
