Want to create a profitable blog but don’t have a million views on your site? No problemo. In fact, it’s possible to create a six figure blog without millions of viewers. Allow me to show you Exhibit A: Michelle’s Making Sense of Cents blog.
First, I’ll share my old strategy, then Michelle’s so that you can see the difference. Over the years, I tried different ways to monetize my blog. I sold online courses, e-books, and did one to one consulting. Through those offers, I was able to cover my basic expenses, but nothing more.
It felt like I hit a glass ceiling with my business.
No matter how much I tried, I was not making enough to be able to leave my 9-5. But I didn’t want to give up on being my entrepreneur dreams just yet.
I thought I knew everything about creating a profitable online business. After all, my blog was profitable in less than a year of putting up my website. But there was something missing if I still couldn’t leave my 9-5 on the income I was earning.
I felt so suffocated at the cubicle and my business wasn’t taking off. I didn’t want to quit without a solid plan lined up (which I have done in the past!) So what’s a girl to do?
Something I should’ve done from the start...
1. Affiliate marketing.
I came across Making Sense of Cents, a blog that covers affiliate marketing strategies. After hearing a few podcast interviews of the author Michelle, I figured what do I have to lose.
Michelle earns over six figures a month on her blog. Last month, she made $104,065 to be exact. She makes over $50,000 a month just through affiliate marketing!
After taking the course, I started applying different strategies that resonated most with me. I wanted to do what felt most authentic. For instance, I’m not excited about Twitter, so I didn’t use those particular social media strategies.
Soon I was noticing a gradual and consistent increase in my monthly revenue. Through Michelle’s course, I learned that I was leaving money a lot of passive income on the table.
After all the trial and error over the years, I can with confidence that affiliate marketing is the way to go. Yes, building a profitable blog is totally doable even without millions of views.
If you are feeling stuck in your business, trust me, I know how you feel. When I thought I tried everything possible under the sun, I thought it was a sign from the Universe to let go. And due to that, I was still seething at a cubicle.
Change your strategy, change your business, change your life.
Michelle earns over $50,000 a month through affiliate marketing. In her course, she shares exact steps she’s taken to earn over $300,000 from a single blog post. Yeperz, it can really just take one blog post.
The affiliate marketing course also covers great Pinterest and Facebook marketing strategies...after all she does have over 100K followers on Pinterest! Most importantly, she covers the latest affiliate marketing disclosure rules needed on the website, social media and so forth.

2. The all star team.
This was the game changer. Years ago, when I started in the online biz world, I was determined to save money by doing everything myself. After all, I came from a family of entrepreneurs so it must be my the blood right? Wrong.
Sure, it will take some extra time and energy, but I'd eventually have to learn how to do things myself. Again, I'd be saving so much money at the same time right? Wrong again.
I planned on using my evenings and weekends to set up my website, respond to troubleshooting issues, and even file my business taxes myself. After all, I was working at one of the Big Four accounting firms, how hard could it be?
But, I got nowhere trying to learn and do every task myself.
I had a grand plan of setting up my business, running it, and making enough in the business to quit my corporate job. But I got in my own way by wasting my time and energy in the details which prevented me from effectively running the business.
Once I had my all star support team in place, it was like the clouds cleared. I hired my current accountant Amy. The money I saved by having Amy do my taxes ended up more than covering the cost of her (very reasonable) service fee. She even does my personal taxes too!

At the end of the day, peace of mind is priceless.
I never dread tax season anymore! Plus, I don’t have to worry about getting in trouble by the IRS. How ironic would that be if I, as personal finance blogger (and former Big Four employee), gets fined for not properly filing taxes?
Who would’ve thought that just because I worked at a Big Four firm didn’t mean I knew the ins and outs of filing my business (and personal!) taxes.
If you need tax support, I bookmarked Amy's website on my favorites tab. She offers a ton of great tips on taxes and bookkeeping here.
I also hired a virtual assistant to help me set up some my email marketing system, manage my social media accounts and so forth. Over time, I’ve expanded her role and she is more of my business manager at this point. Sometimes I think she can read my mind!
The time and money saved by having a VA on the team more than covers the cost to have her on the team. Who would’ve thought spending money actually saves even more money?
At one point, I worked with a website developer too. However, that was when I was using WordPress to build my website. Since I switched to Wix, I have not had to work with a developer (or web designer) because it’s just that easy to use!
WordPress was just too frustrating to deal with. Once I played around on Wix, I was hooked. I ended up saving hundreds of dollars each year by not having to work with a middleman. If you’re interested in playing around on Wix, you can create a free website in under 5 minutes here.
3. The right resources and tools.
There’s a lot of noise out in the online space. Everyone seems to be a life coach or a health and wellness expert. It’s up to you to discern what makes the most sense to help you to your goals.
Do you need a business coach? Mastermind group? Or a mentor from a online business program? Maybe, but it doesn’t have to be all at once.
Only when I got clearer on my business structure and how I wanted expand into the affiliate marketing space, I joined a mastermind group through the Making Sense of Cents Affiliate Marketing Course.
Even after having been in the online biz world for several years, I thought I already had all the best resources and tools needed to build a solid business. But entrepreneurship is a lifelong learning process!
