Being in the midst of office politics can feel suffocating. No matter how even keeled you are, the daily grind of a negative work environment can get to the best of us. Even for those who truly love their jobs.
Over time, the negativity of office bureaucracy, difficult personalities, and other stressors can fester. This can lead to energetic blocks in the chakras. In turn, the energetic blocks can lead to physical blocks such as tension headaches, illnesses, and so forth.
Ever wake up with a stiff neck? Sometimes, it’s not about the pillow or the way you sleep. It’s about the need to let go of a grudge, forgiving someone, or detaching from a particular negative situation.
So rather than having to wake up to a stiff neck or worse, what are some preemptive measures you can take? Let’s start with the basics...the five Reiki principles.
First, what are the Reiki principles?
The Reiki principles are meant to be ideals to help people add peace and balance to their life. It’s impossible to live every moment within these principles.
Nevertheless, you may continue to improve how you manage your thoughts and actions each day so that your actions over time will become a natural way of being.
Reading the principles in the morning and evening may be helpful for focusing on these ideals. You could also carry them with you or have them visible in a place you visit often.
The five principles will have different meanings for everyone.
You may prefer to meditate on the principles to see what they mean for you. You can also focus on the energy of each principle and what it feels like. Holding the intention is more important than the semantics of the principles.
When it comes to improving your work life, let’s take a look at how the five Reiki principles can make an impact.
1. Just for today, I will give thanks to my many blessings.
Feeling bogged down by a difficult manager or colleague? Practice shifting your focus to your blessings. For instance, be thankful for being blessed to even have a job. After all, there is an increasing number of people searching for employment each day.
May be you can look forward to having own office? Having a friend to vent to at the office? A steady income? Now, to be able to have an income is not to be taken for granted!
2. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Sometimes, it’s easy to be overwhelmed when you look at your long term career plans. It may seem dim and perhaps you may feel there isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel. But the key is to take things one day at a time, moment by moment.
So step up to the plate and do your best with what resources you have. When you combine this with #1, more opportunities will start to manifest.
This is because expressing gratitude in the present moment creates space for positive energy to flow into your life. And when you raise your vibrations, you are better able to align with your soul purpose.
3. Just for today, I will not worry.
When you look back with 20/20 hindsight, do you ever wish you hadn’t worried so much about a particular challenge? I’ve lost so many hours of sleep tossing and turning over matters that were not in my control.
If there is a particular situation at work that is not in your control, practice the law of detachment. Learn how to detach your ego from the need to control how or when an outcome will play out.
When you let go of the that need to control, notice how much lighter you feel! Here’s how to practice the law of detachment when manifesting your next career breakthrough.
4. Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor.
Annoying colleague? Difficult client? Micromanaging boss? I get it. Trust. Difficult people exists everywhere regardless of where you work and what you do for a living.
But here’s the deailyo. Difficult people are your biggest teachers in life. And the lessons we learn in life are simply priceless. Life lessons develop the soul. The next time you receive an negative comment or curt email, simple take a step back.
Ask yourself what is the lesson to be learned? Patience with others? Forgiveness? Here’s how to energetically detach from the office drama.
5. Just for today, I will not be angry.
Ever heard of the saying, “anger is like drinking poison hoping the other person will die?” A bit morbid, but true! The only person hurting from your anger is you, not the person you are mad at.
Sure, having anger or any type of negative emotion is natural and a part of human nature. But learning how to let go of the anger is the key to setting yourself free. Furthermore, releasing the anger allows for positive energy to flow into your life.
But what if enough is just enough?
Can’t stand another day at the job? Oh boy do I know that feeling.
The Reiki principles have gotten me far in surviving the 9-5 lifestyle. But I knew deep down when I was more than ready to take a leap of faith out of corporate for good.
