Is it Really Bad Luck? Create Your Own Luck!

Updated: Nov 13, 2019

Having a bad week? Bad month? Heck, maybe it’s just been a bad year all together? When a series of negative events occur left and right, it can feel like there’s a lot bad luck around. But how do you know if it really is “bad luck”?

Now I’m not a naturally positive person to begin with. I do not always see the silver lining in every challenging situation. I have to train and retrain my brain to change negative perceptions all the time. Like, throughout the day.

Unfair events happen all the time. It’s life throwing them lemons for us to make lemonade. Sometimes it’s just easier to see the lemons as bad luck.

Before every breakthrough, there is usually a breakdown.

This could be a breakdown of relationships, jobs, and other life categories that do not align with the new and higher frequency of where you are headed.

For instance, reflect back on a time in your life you realized that you “dodged a bullet.” Was it a relationship that didn’t work out but freed you up to meet a better partner? Or a rejection from a job interview but freed you up to come across a better opportunity?

During those dark periods, it probably felt like a lot of bad luck. It probably felt like all that heavy energy was never going to lift. But depending how you look at things, sometimes it’s ok feel out of alignment.

Are you going through a dark night of the soul?

When you focus on when and how the chaos is going to end, your feelings resonate energetic vibrations of anger, resentment and anxiety. Manifesting a breakthrough can slow down because your energy starts to operate in a lower vibrational frequency.

Going through a dark night of the soul feels downright awful. In fact, it’s not easy to see any silver linings in the midst of all the chaos. So there’s not need to force it. Stop the analyzing. After some time passes, you may see why things panned out the way they did.

For now, there’s no need to push yourself while in the midst of a dark night of the soul. In fact, you can turn negative vibes into positive fuel at any time.

My dark night of the soul.

Throughout my 20s I struggled with anxiety and bouts of depression. This was in my personal and professional life.

I was always looking for Mr Right in the wrong places. And it wasn’t just romantic relationship issues, I also struggled with keeping close friends around.

I was also miserable at my 9-5 job. I worked really hard wherever I was, public sector or private sector. Got promoted and then ended up even more unhappy taking on more responsibilities doing work that I wasn’t passionate about.

There was a whole lot of crying on Friday nights just dreading going into work on Mondays.

In 2013, I hit rock bottom yet again. By then I was in my early 30's and that made it harder because I expected my 30's to be better than my 20's by far. So my expectations kind of made me feel worse about everything.

After learning all the lessons I learned in my 20's, I figured I was older and wiser and therefore there was no way I would hit rock bottom.

But I actually sank even deeper than rock bottom.

It was like I fell in a black hole. I ended a long-term relationship with a guy that I was set on marrying. Long distance just didn’t work out.

And within seven months of the relationship ending, he met and married someone. So that hurt pretty bad even though I was the one who ended things.

My professional life was rough too. I was working overseas and traveling a lot. There was a lot of office politics going on. It was an environment with lots of passive aggressiveness and again the work itself didn’t resonate with me at all.

I hated going into work everyday. I would call in sick and had all types of excuses. I think at one point I said I had hives, then one time I had pink eye, I mean the list goes on.

Throughout this time, I journaled, meditated, visualized my ideal future, and look a lot of time to dig deep. I got quiet and tapped into my intuition.

Small but consistent steps.

After much introspection, I recognized that my happiness, my sanity and just having that sense of peace and balance, was priceless. Slowly but surely, I got clear on what I wanted to change in my work and life.

Within months, I moved to a new city. I even bought a condo and car within 24-hours of landing. When in alignment, things fall into place quite quickly.

The key is to feel it in order to heal it! As you release your negative emotions, begin to shift your energy.

When you shift your focus, you shift your energy. And where our focus goes, energy flows.

Shifting your focus requires managing thought patterns. See our brain is wired to help us survive in this world. Thus, the brain tends to look for what’s wrong, for whatever can hurt us, and what we must do to survive the worst case scenario.

As a result, an unfocused mind operates naturally in survival mode by searching for threats. I don’t know about you but that usually is in the form of unnecessary stress and anxiety for me!

In fact, operating on survival mentality nonstop can lead to strained relationships and health issues too.

Life is just too short and our time is just too precious to constantly operate in survival mode. There isn’t a bear running after us every day...or ever.

Yet our cortisone levels hit that peak point when someone cuts us off on the road or when we are sitting in traffic. So how does one begin to shift the energy away from survival mentality?

The next time you sense you can’t seem to catch a break for all that “bad luck”, take a step back. When you’re stuck in traffic and running late to an appointment, it’s hard to shift your focus to sunny beaches and teddy bears.

R.A.I.N. on Negative Thoughts

The important thing is to take baby steps to ease out of the negative thought patterns. Remember the acronym R.A.I.N. Recognize, accept, intention, and neutralize those thoughts.

Recognize that the sympathetic nervous system is activated which is often referred to as the fight or flight response. Accept the thought by letting go of any self-judgement.

Take three slow breaths to ease your way out of the fight or flight mode. Next, set the intention.

For instance, you may want to write or say out loud that forgive yourself for your past financial mistakes. Then write or say that you intend to take small but consistent steps each day to achieve financial freedom.

Ready to snap out of that funk?

When you shift your focus to even just the smallest thing that is going well in life, you shift your energy. The slightest shift in your energetic vibrations can raise your frequency to help you attract more positive outcomes.

Good news: You can do this instantly. And at anytime and anyplace. You just have to make the choice to start now by setting your intention to raise your vibrations.

Raise your vibrations to attract who and want you want into your life. Let's create positive energy together!
