About to submit your resignation notice? Maybe you already gave two weeks notice? Depending on your situation and office dynamic, it could be a combination of awkward tension and sad farewells. And if you really hate the job, you might be struggling to survive the final weeks of your 9-5 to leave on good terms.
Having resigned from a 9-5 job several times in the past, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to make an exit. That is, an exit on amicable terms.
But that’s not always possible. I get it. I experienced the drama of leaving on terrible terms and would not wish it upon anyone. At least the experience has taught me how to emotionally detach from office politics.
When I resigned, sometimes I’d have a Plan B lined up. Other times, it was just not worth my sanity to stay miserable until I found another job. In both situations, I’ve survived and live to share my lessons learned in hopes that your remaining time in the office are filled with no regrets.
At the end of the day, you can’t control what other people think. Or how they will react to your decision to resign. But since you can control your thoughts and actions, that is what really matters for your sanity.
Here are some suggestions to help you make the remaining days at your job a little less stressful and transition out with more ease.
1. 6 months from now…
Shift your focus to where you would like to be in your professional life 6 months from now. What would you do on a day to day basis after you already left? Probably not thinking about your current situation!
In a matter of months, you won’t have to be doing the exact same tasks working with the exact same people in your current job. So if the awkward tension around the office is getting to you, recognize it is only temporary.
Start shifting your focus to life 6 months from now. What would your ideal workday be like? How would you feel? If you are not sure, take time to find stillness to realign with your soul purpose.
2. Plan for the healing…
Maybe you are having a hard time shifting your focus to 6 months into the future. This was hard for me too when I resigned from a job and I didn’t have another job lined up. Heck, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do next so I wasn’t sure where to start!
If you find yourself at a loss in regards to the next chapter, then shift your focus to healing. Bring your attention to the time period immediately after your official resignation.
As your last day approaches, how will you feel on the day after you exit those doors for good? Start planning your celebration.
Maybe you won't be able to go on an Eat, Pray, Love journey. But there are many ways to celebrate the close of a chapter and the beginning of a new one.
Even if you don’t have another job lined up and feel anxious about it, you still deserve a celebration for making it through the last day! After all, opportunities tend to show up faster when you are in the frequency of joy.
It’s hard to move forward when trying to run on an empty tank of fuel. So fill up your “soul tank” with energy healing self-care activities.
Before starting the next chapter of your career, healing is critical on the mental, emotional, physical, and energetic level. In order to set yourself up for success, healing on the energetic level can help to springboard you on the path to career satisfaction.
Practicing your fav daily self-care can help you raise your vibrations. And when you raise your vibrations, you allow for opportunities to attract who and what you want into your life.
